Bold statement. I know. In fact, I’m willing to bet I’ve offended most of you with the claim in the title of this post. After all, Spaghetti is the one recipe everyone thinks they have mastered. It’s easy. It’s quick. It’s nearly impossible to screw up. But what if I told you that there’s a better sauce out there. Sure, you can buy one of the pre-made sauces, some of which are really quite delicious. On the other hand, doing it completely from scratch not only takes a lot longer, but opens yourself up to mistakes that can ruin the whole endeavor.
The recipe I’m about to share with you finds itself somewhere in-between the former and the latter. It’s definitely not homemade and by no means fancy, but I have yet to find a single person on God’s green Earth who has tried it and not loved it!
Ingredients
28 oz can of Tomato Sauce
15 oz can of Tomato Paste
2 lbs of Hot Italian Sausage from the butcher (don’t worry... it’s really not very spicy)
16 oz of Monterey whole mushrooms
4 cloves of garlic, minced
1 Tbs of Oregano
1 tsp of Onion Powder
1 tsp of Hot Chili Powder
Pinch of Crushed Red pepper
Directions
Brown the meat in a large skillet.
Add the mushrooms and cook for another 3-4 minutes
Stir in the garlic and cook for 1 minute
In a large kettle, add both the tomato sauce and tomato paste.
Fill each empty can with water and stir into the sauce.
Add the remaining spices
Add the browned meat and mushrooms
Cover and simmer on low heat for at least 4 hours. The longer the better as long as you don’t dry it out.
Enjoy!
